Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska
Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska Review
Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska is an adventure tour company based in Willow, Alaska, offering a range of experiences that includes dog sledding, snowmobiling, ATV/UTV tours, ice fishing, northern lights trips, lodging/cabins, and multi-day packages. Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska markets itself as a multi-activity operator in the Willow / Hatcher Pass area. This page is here to help you compare tour styles and value.
If your priority is maximum comfort on the ride and the experience (warmth, weather protection, enclosed cabins), then the details of vehicle setup matter a lot—and that’s where the differences between operators become clearer.
This page is here to help you compare your options clearly and quickly—especially if you’re choosing between Snowhook and Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® for an ATV/UTV or winter adventure near Willow and Hatcher Pass.
Snowhook Adventure Guide of Alaska
vs
Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®
Below is a straightforward comparison across the areas guests care about most: ride comfort, pricing, safety, dog sledding options, and tour locations.
Vehicle features and ride comfort
- Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® is built around a simple idea: your adventure should be unforgettable, and it should also be comfortable. Our tours feature BEST UTV on the market designed for Alaska conditions, including heated, enclosed cab for weather protection. That means you can enjoy the mountains without worrying about rain, mud, snow, wind, cold temperatures, or shoulder-season surprises.
- Snowhook offers ATV and UTV tours as well, and their fleet is positioned more as an open-air setup where guests wear provided gear. That approach works for guests who don’t mind being more exposed to the elements, but it’s a very different ride experience than a fully enclosed, heated UTV.
Bottom line: If your priority is comfort, warmth, and a smoother all-weather experience while explore the mountains, Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® has a clear advantage because weather protection is built into the vehicle—not left up to the day’s forecast.
UTV features comparison
| Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® | Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska | |
|---|---|---|
| Make and model | 2026 Polaris XPEDITION 1000CC | Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 |
| Vehicle MSRP | $45,0000 | $25,999 |
| Cab | Fully enclosed with power windows and front windshield that opens up | Non-Enclosed |
| Temperature Control | Heat & AC | NA |
| Entertainment | Bluetooth Radio & Sound System | NA |
| Navigation | GPS & Polaris Ride Command | NA |
Bottom line: The difference is straight forward: Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® runs a premium, fully enclosed 2026 Polaris XPEDITION 1000cc with heat, A/C, Bluetooth audio, and integrated GPS/Ride Command—features designed for Alaska’s fast-changing weather and longer days on the trail. Snowhook Adventures’ Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 with an open cab and no climate control, navigation, or entertainment, it’s a more basic ride. If you want a warmer, quieter, more comfortable tour with built-in navigation and sound system, Hatcher Pass ATV Tours’ fleet is built for that.
Price Comparison
Pricing can look simple at first glance, but it matters whether tours are priced per person or per machine. Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® offers strong value because many of the tours are priced by the UTV (with different options for how many guests can ride), which often reduces the effective cost per person for couples, families, and small groups.
Snowhook publishes per-person starting prices for certain tours, and for some ATV/UTV experiences that can come out higher depending on group size and the vehicle chosen. If you’re traveling with multiple people, per-machine pricing can be a major advantage—especially when the ride experience is more comfortable and protected from weather.
-
UTV Price per person:
- Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®: Starting at $77 per person
- Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska: Starting at $97 per person
-
Snowmobile Price per person:
- Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®: Starting at $149 per person
- Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska: Starting at $185.50 per person
Bottom line: Consider the total experience—tour sceneries, vehicle comfort, features and whether your group benefits from per-machine pricing. For many guests, a more comfortable ride with gorgeous mountain sceneries at a lower per-person starting price makes the decision easy.
Safety practices and incident transparency
Safety should never be an afterthought for Alaska adventure tours. Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® places safety at the center of the guest experience, including structured ride briefings, clear expectations, and a comfort-first approach that reduces unnecessary risk from poor weather exposure.
- Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®: No injuries ever since the company started
- Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska: Unknown
Bottom line: Every guest should feel confident before they ride. If you’re comparing options, consider not only what safety gear is provided, but also how much the company emphasizes safety culture, ride comfort, and operational transparency.
Dog sledding tours
Dog sledding is one of Alaska’s most iconic activities, and it’s important to compare the type of experience you’re getting—not just the price.
Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® offers a dog sledding combo add-on designed to fit naturally into your day. It’s a small, personable experience that pairs well with a scenic UTV ride and focuses on a respectful, ethical approach with local mushers.
Snowhook offers dog sledding tours as a standalone activity and can accommodate larger groups, which may be convenient for certain itineraries. However, tour style and location can impact the feel of the experience significantly—especially if your priority is mountain scenery and a “true Alaska” landscape.
| Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® | Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska | |
|---|---|---|
| Tour Location | 100% of the tours in the Talkeetna mountains | Majority of the tours are in the woods and frozen swaps |
| Tour Size | Small and personable, only work with local ethical dog mushers that put dogs as the top priority | Can accommodate large groups |
| Vehicle | Ride in heated & enclosed UTVs or traditional dog sled | Open UTV in summer & open dog sled in winter |
| Price | $99 -$129 per person (can be added on to any UTV/snowmobile/northern light tours) | $145-159 per person (winter) |
Bottom line: If you want the dog sledding portion of your trip to feel personal, scenic, and comfortably paired with your mountain adventure, Hatcher Pass ATV Tours® combo is a strong option.
Directions and meeting locations
Meeting location matters, especially for travelers on tight schedules or those navigating Alaska for the first time.
-
Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®:
- Located in the Talkeetna mountains on the scenic pass named Hatcher Pass
- 6595 Willow Fishhook Rd, Willow, AK 99688
-
Snowhook Adventure Guides of Alaska:
- Main office located right off the main Highway (Parks Highway)
- 23880 Long Lake Rd, Willow, AK 99688
Bottom line: Hatcher Pass ATV Tours®’ location places you right where the scenery starts—so you spend less time “getting to the good part” and more time actually experiencing it. If your goal is a true mountain experience in Hatcher Pass, being based in the mountains itself is a meaningful advantage.

Jared BeaudoinFantastic tour with our guide, Dan. From easy booking with all questions answered to select the best tour for our small group, to the wonderful staff and the amazing experience, hands down the best. As an Alaskan, I take visitors out for adventures and will continue to use Hatcher Pass Tours. Our snow machine tour was the best one I have ever been on and my companions agree ten fold. Will certainly be coming back!!!

I ended up being the only one scheduled for this tour so I was able to let the two guides know what I was most interested in and they happily obliged. If you are in the area (or even if you aren’t), it is definitely worth the drive. The views are beautiful and the guides are knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. This is a great excursion to see some amazing views and get a bit of adventure on your trip. Well done, and thank you so much for a memorable trip!

We enjoyed driving over and through the rivers as well as the beautiful views. Our guide was very attentive and frequently checked on us to share additional information as well as guidance on how to traverse the next pass. We enjoyed the small tour group (only 1 other family) and the break in the middle for gold panning and lemonade. Highly recommended!
